Stefan Bott

Stefan Bott has been with the Vaillant Group for around ten years, mainly in the Industrial division. His job is to get new product developments ready for mass production.

Actually, the glass is always half full

Change seems to be the most constant thing in Bott’s life. An engineer, Bott (36) studied mechatronics, but has worked mainly as a project manager in the last few years. “I’ve come to know almost every location that Vaillant has. My job is to take a new product from development to mass production, to set up product lines and to take care of the teething problems. Once that’s complete, my work is mostly done, and I move on to the next thing. Everything’s different again now in China – I am also involved in the areas of marketing, sales and product management. There’s been a lot of focus on IoT and connectivity lately as well.”

Born in Germany’s Ruhr area, Stefan Bott has lived in a lot of different places: the UK, France, Slovenia, Turkey and now Asia – he is fascinated by intercultural exchange. “In the Vaillant Group, you have people working together with very different approaches. The best solutions are always when everyone contributes something from their own context. I find it refreshing that everyone’s different. I firmly believe that we mutually enrich our community with new ideas and perspectives.”

Teamwork is important to Stefan Bott. He sees his job as a manager as being to motivate others, allay their fears and promote the joy of work. “The glass is always half full, for me,” he says, highlighting his positive attitude. “I fight for my team and for the job. And I work to make sure that everyone’s happy to be part of the team. Whenever I work on a new project, I always like seeing how committed our people are, the great products we make and the fantastic solutions we create. Even if nobody would have thought it possible in the beginning.”

Stefan Bott has worked in renewable energies including the use of solar energy, heat pumps and the development of accumulators. Sustainability is important to him “because we want to preserve the planet for future generations. This issue is a priority for the Vaillant Group – and I like that. We always look to see if there’s a solution that’s better for the environment.”

What strengths do you need to keep on facing so many big changes? “A positive attitude, open-mindedness and enjoying achieving shared goals. It’s the same in my hobby as well, motocross. I have a heavy vehicle and I look for the best way across difficult terrain. I always do it in a group. You help each other, learn from other people’s mistakes, and in the end you find the perfect route and how to drive it together. Motocross is like my job: I never do the same thing twice. Because I firmly believe that we can use our experience to manage new challenges. That’s how we move forward.”
